ski update

Sun Jan 23 2005 19:38 MST #

So an update on my ski clinic adventures.

Yesterday Hank from the ski area called me as I was standing in front of the iron selection at Walmart. He had gotten my letter and was calling about it. Anyway, the convo was good - he said he was sorry and basically said they would move us to another group, or move people out of our group. Excellent!

So fast forward to today. We showed up right before class, and bought half-day tickets, figuring the snow would be total crap, since it has been super warm and sunny for the last week and a half.

There were nine people in the general beginner's level today, and we got divided up into two groups. It was so so much better. There were five us together, four of us had skied the first day together, and another guy who was there just for the day. We definitely tackled gnarlier terrain than we would have with the old group. We did lots of moguls. I'm pretty sucky at them so far, but I did handle them a lot better than I usually do. I felt very satisfied with the lesson today, and if we can stay in similar groups for the rest of the lessons, all will be well.

We skied Hunziker Bowl trail today - black diamond moguls - although I sucked majorly - but it was gorgeous back there. And looking back at that slope at the bottom made me totally impressed with myself that I went down that. Woo hoo!

The snow was excellent - I would describe it as baby corn snow - snow that has frozen, melted, refrozen to a nice consistency, and softens up beautifully in the afternoon. I really enjoyed the snow a lot today - I was imagining it would just be ice, but there were very few patches of ice overall.

Also - my legs are stronger than Nathan's! (to be said in a sing-songy voice repeatedly.) All those lunges are paying off! (Now Nathan is going to do lunges all week once he reads this).
