ski day
Tue Feb 8 2005 14:30 MST #Nathan and I started driving up the ski hill at lunch today, but alas, no skiing was in store for us.
I got the Audi stuck half way up the really steep hill. the road was so slick that when I stood outside, I had to hold on to the car to keep from sliding down hill.
Another car was also stuck farther down the hill. It got towed out to the bottom of the hill where the road was clear.
I managed to turn the car around, and started slowly letting off the brake, then back on to a complete stop, to keep my progress slow. However, once I got past the dirt Nathan had sprinkled on the road, I got locked into a slide down the hill. Oh man. I angled the car slightly to the right, so that I would run into the snow on the hill-side of the road, versus the guard rail on the lefthand side. The tow truck had stopped at the bottom of the hill, and the other car was backing out. I was headed right for it. I was driving with the e-brake and the brakes slammed down. My hope was that when I got to the clear part of the road, I would stop. And fortunately, this is what happened. Then I took a deep breath and we drove to the auto store to see if they had chains in stock. I don't want to ever have to do that again.
Our ski buddies, Chuck and Carla, drove past us when we were first stuck. Nathan swears taht the Suburu had studded tires on. The Audi's high-performance tires are probably not the right thing for this type of driving.
