Postgres and DB::Pg on OS X
13:42:32 MST on Saturday January 28 2006 #When using the PostgreSQLforMac project's install of Postgres and trying to install perl's DBD::Pg from CPAN the installs fails dieing with this message:
Could not connect: install_driver(Pg) failed:
Can't load 'Pg.bundle' for module DBD::Pg: dlopen( .. ):
Symbol not found: _krb5_free_error
The fix is simple, and easy if you read the error, merely add -lk5crypto to the POSTGRES_LIB you export. However this fact was ungoogle-able and I had to actually look about to figure out what was up. Hopefully this entry will save you the trouble:)
Anyhow here's how to do it:
export POSTGRES_LIB
="/Library/PostgreSQL8/lib/ -lcrypto -lssl -lk5crypto"
export POSTGRES_INCLUDE="/Library/PostgreSQL8/include/"
perl Makefile.PL ;
make ; make test;
Dim Sum Breakfast.
12:59:12 MST on Saturday January 28 2006 #We woke up this morning to find that we had no oatmeal, no cereal, no bread for an eggs based breakfast. We also had no time to make baked goods -- and we'd had pancakes for bfast yesterday, so there was nothing for it we HAD to have a Dim Sum Breakfast.
We broke out Rachel's new bamboo steamer - and lots of frozen buns and rolls, that she'd picked up at Ta Lin earlier this week. We pulled out the sauces, and 15 minutes later we were chowing down.
This is how every weekend should start :)
Coffee Porter
15:14:55 MST on Wednesday January 25 2006 #Today - after much, much, to much time had gone past I finally got around to bottling the the Coffee Porter. And it started of poorly with me breaking my hydrometer while cleaning it, then leaving the spout open on the bottling bucket, and then finally, while bottling having the tube fall off of the spout sprayting the kitchen in beer. But after that I got in the swing of things, it started to snow outside, and everything went right.
I got 8 6packs of beer - and the preview tasting is very promising, smooth dark and rich with a little bit of bite -- and even some coffee overtones. I'm very much looking forward to this one :)
A Foot of Fresh POW!
14:54:30 MST on Friday January 20 2006 #Yesterday Taos got a foot of fresh pow, a foot you read me right. This goes down on the 25-35 inches they have as a base - in what is apparently the worst year for snow in Taos' 50 year history. It's basically sucked up there until today.
One of the advantages of working nearly every moment on CastingWords, is that I get to take my breaks when I want to. So today I headed up to Taos for a 1/2 day. The power was excellent - the although much of the mountain pretty well skied by the time I got on the mountain a little before 10. However there where still plenty of pockets of great fun, and plenty of fresh snow to keep the runs nice and soft.
A lot of the pow very quickly became packed pow and base. Which is probably a very good thing, because on the front side in particular you could cut through the pow - and what was below was often very icy.
On the backside what was below was rocks. And for that reason a lot of the runs where closed -- including all the stuff off of the Kachina lift - our favorite lift, and one of the lifts that is not runny yet. Still lots of new stuff will be opening. Three new runs will open up today and tomorrow.
The skiing was a great deal of fun. And the weather looks to hold for a while, so maybe it will stick - and this will be the late but great skiing year. We hope at least !
After the skiing I went back to the car to my insulated Bento Box - of Indian food, rice, and panneer jalfrasi, and mango pickels. Man was that good - one of the best lunches in a very long time. And wow does the new bento box keep things hot! Impressive! And yummy :)
NYTimes Public Editor on Delay of NSA eavesdropping story
19:37:26 MST on Tuesday January 3 2006 #This is a scary article by the NYTimes public editor. It discusses the NYTimes delaying publication of the NSA domestic surveillance story for a full year -- and straight through a presidential election. And how even the public editor can not get an answer as to why ......
